Minions: The Rise of Gru

 Tiny yellow creatures are about to hit the cinema's back again screaming BANANA! 

The ‘Despicable Me’ Franchise by Universal Pictures releases its Spin-off prequel “Minions; The Rise of Gru” this July. I’m sure you all have at least watched one movie from this animated franchise cause it was really hard not to watch when minions are all you could see in every nook and cranny few years ago. 

The animated Franchise started in 2010 with its release of ‘Despicable Me’ introducing the Gru and his Minions. And later it was followed by Despicable Me 2 (2013), Despicable Me 3 (2017), and its spin-off prequel Minions in 2015. According to Wikipedia data, ‘The franchise is the highest-grossing animated film franchise and the 15th highest-grossing film franchise of all time, having grossed over $3.7 billion at the global box office.’ 

From trying to steal the moon to trying to steal the Crown and even breaking out of Prison we are quite accustomed to the adventures of Minions. But for some reason, we all can’t seem to get quite enough of these no matter how adventurous and humorous they are. Especially with Kevin trying to be all heroic and big brother out of the three, Stuart being hungry all the time and Bob being the innocent and childish one, it’s impossible not to love them. And not to mention our scariest villain of all the time Gru! 

In this upcoming Movie "The Rise of Gru", we will be able to catch the glimpse of our notorious villain’s untold story. This is where it all started. This is a story of a twelve-year-old’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain. This is how Gru became the despicable supervillain with his minions. Long before he became the villain we know, he was just a little boy who wished to take over the world from his basement. But it wasn’t going smoothly as he predicted it to be until he met the Minions who are dedicated to follow their despicable master. When Gru’s Plan to join the supervillain group Vicious 6, took a turn well let’s just say things got a little tricky.  

Also we will be meeting a new Minion in this movie! Otto! This two-eyed minion with braces who is in love with his rock is the new addition to Kevin , Bob and Stuart. 

So before you all hit the cinemas on the 1st of July, let’s recall everything in a nutshell. But don't worry you all can enjoy each of these movies on their own without having to watch them in order. 

From the first look of the movie ‘Despicable Me’ we see Gru as someone who wants to be the Supervillain of all. So he tries to steal the moon in rivalry of Vector a young Supervillain. And to succeed in his mission he even adopts three girls named Margo, Edith and Agnus. Contrary to the Gru we have been seeing in the first half of the movie, it turns out that Gru had developed a soft spot for the girls despite his better judgment.  

In the movie ‘Despicable Me 2’ we get to meet Lucy Wilde, an Anti Villain League Agent with whom Gru goes on an adventurous investigation to find the culprit who stole a secret laboratory in Arctic Circle. And the movie ends with Gru and Lucy getting married. 

"Despicable Me 3" movie depicts a story in which Dru ; Gru’s long-lost brother and Gru teaming up to defeat a new enemy Balthazar Bratt. 

"Minions 2015" tells us the story of minions before they met Gru. How they have been trying to find an evil master to serve throughout history is shown in the movie. But when all those masters face their demise at the hands of Minions themselves, Kevin, Bob and Stuart decide to go on an adventure in search of a master. And the movie ends with their meeting with Gru. 

"Yellow is the New Black" movie shows us no glimpse of Gru but two minions trying to escape the prison. 

And that’s what we know so far about Gru’s and Minions Story. The rise of Gru takes us all the way back to the timeline. Directed by Kyle Balda and written by Brian Lynch and Matthew Fogel, The Rise of Gru is produced by Chris Meledandri, Janet Healey and Chris Renaud.  

Steve Carell voices with his thick Russian accent as Gru while Pierre Coffin voice casts as Kevin, Stuart, Bob Otto and rest of the Minions. Further , Taraji P. Henson as Belle Bottom, Michelle Yeoh as Mater Chow Jean Claude Van Damme as Jean Clawed, Lucy Lawless as Nunchuck , Dolph Lundgren as Svengeance, Danny Trejo as Stronghold, Russell Brand as Dr. Nefario, Julie Andrews as Marlena, Alan Arkin as Wild Knuckles will be contributing as voice artists.  

Universal Pictures and Illumination first announced the sequel to Minions in 2017 January and began the productions in July 2019. The Rise of Gru was initially scheduled for general release on July 3, 2020 but because of the COVID 19 pandemic, the date was delayed to July 2, 2021 and later to July 1, 2022. The movie is expected to gross $65–80 million in its first weekend in the United States. 

So, starting from the 1st of July you all can watch The Rise of Gru whom they call ‘Mini Boss’ in theatres!
